Writing for gun magazines since 1971, Massad Ayoob has served more than 30 years as handgun editor of GUNS magazine and law enforcement editor of AMERICAN HANDGUNNER. He has been a contributor to COMBAT HANDGUNS magazine and GUNS & WEAPONS FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT magazine. He has won the George Nonte Award for excellence in firearms journalism, the James Madison Award for his work in promoting gun owners' civil rights, and the Roy Rogers award for his efforts in the firearms safety area. In 1998, he was named by his peers the Outstanding American Handgunner of the Year. He has been an expert witness for the courts in weapons and homicide cases for over 30 years, and a sworn part-time police officer for 36 years. Ayoob was the first 5-Gun Master in IDPA has won state championships in Florida, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Wisconsin, and regional championships of New England, the Midwestern US, Tri-State region (TN/KY/AR) and the Florida/Georgia region. Ayoob is the author of several books, including the authoritative text on civilian use of deadly force ("In the Gravest Extreme") and the Gun Digest Book of Concealed Carry, and appears regularly on Personal Defense TV. Having served 19 years as chair of the firearms committee for the American Society of Law Enforcement Trainers, he is now on the advisory board of the International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association.
